Fash'lo'nae
Author -
Reyvin
Iscikella recites:
"Ladies and gentlemen, our next speaker tonight will be Reyvin, who will be speaking to us on Fash'lo'nae."
Iscikella recites:
"Please give him yer attention."
Iscikella recites:
"Keep fidgeting to a minimum please."
Iscikella recites:
"No spell-casting."
Reyvin says, "Greetings, everyone."
Iscikella recites:
"And be sure and wait until he had opened the floor for discussion."
Iscikella nods.
Iscikella smiles at Reyvin.
Iscikella sits down.
Reyvin says, "As Iscikella mentioned, I will be speaking on Fash'lo'nae."
Reyvin says, "I shall begin by a slightly detailed lecture, and then shall open it up to general questions."
Reyvin says, "So...without futher waiting..."
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae is known by many names: The Grandfather, Old Scholar, The Eldest, and many others. The Grandfather is the God of Magic, Forbidden Knowledge, and Libraries, and is the master of magic and arcane knowledge for its own sake."
Reyvin says, "He is said to consider the pursuit of esoteric knowledge as an end in itself, and because of that, he is often considered evil and has been aligned to the Pantheon of Lornon."
Reyvin smirks.
Reyvin says, "This lecture will explore what great knowledge Fash'lo'nae has given both the Arkati and the mortal races, and will argue against the unfortunate circumstance that has placed him in the ranks of evil."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "To begin to explain the knowledge that Fash'lo'nae has passed down, it is essential to first give some vital background information to the possibly uneducated listener."
Reyvin says, "During this lecture, examples and information will be given via quotes from various historians, as well as from commonly accepted tomes and documents on the history of Elanthia."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "The information that is the basis for this lecture is commonly accepted as fact among Elanthian scholars and historians."
Reyvin says, "It is generally acknowledged that the Arkati began their existence as slaves of the Drakes. Though the Arkati were as old a race as dragon kind, they were both inferior in powers and numbers, and thus subjugated."
The powerful look leaves Rimonna.
Reyvin says, "However, the mortal races that lived during the times of the Drakes worshipped the Arkati, and well so, for it was only by the intervention of the Arkati that the mortal races survived at all, due to the harm that the Drakes would bring."
Reyvin frowns.
Reyvin says, "Soon, however, the planet became overly crowded, and the Drakes commanded their servants to live on the moons of Lornon and Liabo."
Reyvin says, "Many Arkati feared that the dragons were using Elanthia's overcrowding as an excuse to remove the lesser races, and that the relocation of the Arkati was to facilitate this genocide."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Koar, who ultimately became the Last Drake, was the chosen of Drakes to keep tight reign over the Arkati. In order to assist the Arkati in properly controlling the lesser races, he summoned all the Arkati to him and assigned them certain areas of control based on the abilities of each."
Reyvin says, "To Fash'lo'nae he gave sway over the wisdom of the ages, but not power over the Five Spheres of Knowledge, which he gave to his lover Lumnis. It was Koar's purpose that all the discernment and erudition of the world would be shared between Lumnis and Fash'lo'nae."
Reyvin says, "However, it became apparent that Lumnis' interest lay more in shrewdness and cognition, and Fash'lo'nae's lay more in lore and scholarship. For this reason did Lumnis come to call Fash'lo'nae "Old Scholar", and Fash'lo'nae call Lumnis "Prudent One"."
Reyvin says, "It came to pass that Koar took a great interest in a certain nomadic tribe of Giantmen. These giants' enthusiasm for life brought a smile to the face of Koar, for all such zest was being sapped from Koar's own kind due to their struggle to keep an iron grip upon the world."
Reyvin says, "These tribesmen lived in the colder climes of Elanthia, near the glacier that once covered much of the lands. At times their survival in the brutal conditions was very difficult and seemed much at risk."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Lumnis, ever prudent, provided animals with skins warm enough to protect the nomads from the weather's harshness, and Koar watched in amusement as the nomads slowly learned the skill of skinning."
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae, seeing this, spoke to Lumnis put saying, "Prudent One, let us give these hearty giants the gift of fire, so that they may survive in some degree of comfort.""
Reyvin leans on his staff.
Reyvin says, "Lumnis, however, disagreed, put saying that the mortal races were still too much children, and that they would do more harm than good. Koar agreed with his lover."
Reyvin says, "Soon, however, a particularly severe winter came upon Elanthia and with it the threat of extinction for Koar's affectionately viewed tribe of Giantmen."
Reyvin smirks.
Reyvin says, "Lumnis doubled, and then tripled her efforts to keep the nomads supplied with adequate skins. However, one after another tribesmen fall victim to the deep freeze raking the lands. Lumnis only could watch in concern, unable to do anything."
Reyvin says, "Again, Fash'lo'nae spoke to Lumnis put saying, "Prudent One, the Giantmen shiver and die from the cold. Let me provide them an easier means to warm themselves." WaitFor FashContinue"
Reyvin says, "Again, Lumnis said no, despite her inability to save them herself."
Reyvin asks, "Fash'lo'nae had other thoughts, however. He decided he would give the tribesmen the gift of fire. He wondered if they did indeed lack the reasoning to properly control such a gift. He also wondered that if they did lack such reasoning, how would they handle the gift of fire?"
Reyvin says, "Thus, he entered into the nomads' camp as one of their own, and brought forth two dry sticks. Rubbing them together, he brought forth open flame. The giants howled in delight, and Fash'lo'nae left them unnoticed."
Reyvin says, "The Giants, however, foolishly squandered this great gift, and could not grasp basic logic. They reasoned that if this strange glow on the ground warmed them so much, upon their thick furs it would warm them even more."
Reyvin gazes heavenward.
Reyvin says, "So, the tribesmen let the flames catch the hides they wore. Quickly, the furs blazed, and the tribesmen's howls of delight turned into screams of agony."
Reyvin says, "Having no notion how to put out the blazing hides, they leapt about wildly, feeding the flames into frenzy with their very movement until their bodies were in torment."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Seeing this, Koar drenched his prideful nomads in rains, quenching the fire. Thus, the Giantmen came to learn the secrets of fire, and learned from the experience to properly control fire and warm themselves during harsh winters. This knowledge eventually spread to all the mortal races."
Reyvin says, "Seeing that Fash'lo'nae succeeded where she had failed, Lumnis came to Fash'lo'nae and addressed him bluntly, "Old Scholar, you have put yourself at odds with me forever.""
Reyvin leans on his staff.
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae looked into her angry eyes and spoke, "Prudent One, I have naught but the greatest respect for your wisdom. I will not be at odds with you.""
Reyvin says, "Lumnis responded, "Old Scholar, you have no choice. It is done and it is unchangeable.""
Reyvin says, "Hearing this, Eorgina, who was the leader of the Arkati of Lornon, came to Fash'lo'nae. She said, "Since Koar's lady has put herself at odds with you, I consider you now of my ranks, Old Scholar.""
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae, uninterested in politics, simply shrugged and returned to his studies. Thus began the association between Fash'lo'nae and those of evil. "
Reyvin says, "As time passed, however, the Arkati began to tire of taking a backseat to the Drakes, and having to plead for what they wanted."
Reyvin says, "Eorgina, one among those sent to live on Lornon, came to Fash'lo'nae and asked if he had found anything in his studies that would rid the Arkati of dragon rule. Fash'lo'nae promised Eorgina his aid."
Reyvin says, "He had never mentioned his planar studies to his masters or his fellow servants. Neither had he mentioned the beings he found in alternate dimensions. Thus, Eorgina and the other Lornon Arkati were quite surprised when presented with the Ur-Daemon."
Reyvin smiles.
Reyvin says, "Eorgina, quick to recover from her surprise, wasted no time in pointing out the Drakes and their abundance of mana to the Ur-Daemons. Were they to remove the dragons, they could share in the abundance Elanthia presented."
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae assisted in opening up the Veil between the dimensions, and thus began the Ur-Daemon War between the Ur-Daemon and the Drakes. Many Arkati rushed to help their masters and were summarily killed."
Reyvin shakes his head.
Reyvin says, "The intelligent ones hid from the conflict, thereby ensuring their survival. The War lasted one thousand years, and the final battle before the portal to the Ur-Daemons' home plane ended up blasting the landscape for hundreds of miles, leaving it a lifeless wasteland."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "The Ur-Daemons were gone, though so were the Drakes. The Drakes numbers had been decimated, and most of those left had been driven insane by fear. The Arkati were servants no more."
Rimonna just went down.
Reyvin says, "However, the Liabo Arkati were horrified and appalled by what had been done, even though it freed them from the bonds of slavery. Again, the idea of Fash'lo'nae being evil was strengthened, further binding him to the Pantheon of Lornon."
Reyvin smirks.
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae also has helped the mortal races in instilling wisdom through experience. The Legend of Soulingen, as told by Morrin Cairwyn, shows this."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Ages ago a band of roving halflings, criminal by nature, were led by some priests that dabbled in very unhalfling-like black magicks. This was the reason that others of their ilk had exiled them from their shrine."
Reyvin says, "Wishing for a power to sate their need for revenge and greed, the dark priests made a deal with Fash'lo'nae to craft them a blade, which would kill all their enemies without resurrection."
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae agreed, and had the blade forged, knowing the conclusion that the blade would bring."
Reyvin says, "One of the exiled halflings, though he was a criminal, had fallen in love with a maiden in the shire he was expelled from. So strong was this growing bond that, seeking to be reunited with good society, he knew what he had to do."
Reyvin says, "Acting quickly, he managed to wrest the blade away from the priests, and killed them with the very blade the priests intended to use on their enemies. He then ran for his life to the shire, and threw himself upon the mercy of the elders."
Reyvin says, "There, the elders agreed to hold the blade for safekeeping. The remaining outlaw halflings never attempted to reclaim the blade, having seen the horrors of the blades power used on their dead priests firsthand."
Reyvin says, "As you can see, Fash'lo'nae has done nothing to warrant being evil, other than opposing the lover of Koar, the last Drake."
Reyvin smirks.
Reyvin says, "All knowledge he has garnered and distributed has ultimately aided those for whom the knowledge was dispersed."
Reyvin says, "Fash'lo'nae does not seek to destroy the mortal races, but only to further uncover what hidden knowledge that may be of use in the future."
Reyvin says, "Though such tactics as theft, dishonesty, and even murder may be utilized to acquire such knowledge, the ends do indeed justify the means. The Ur-Daemon War was ample evidence of this. Though many were lost, far more mortals would have been killed in the impending genocide that the Drakes were planning."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Only because of timely information from Fash'lo'nae is the world set as it is now, with Arkati released from slavery and the mortal races free to live as they wish."
Sothog rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Reyvin says, "It can only be strongly evident everyone's position in life now can be attributed to the intervention of The Grandfather, and thanks should be proffered to him for it."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "We now move on to why one would worship The Grandfather. Besides the obvious reasons mentioned above...most followers are because their goals align with the Grandfather very well."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin asks, "Those goals being uncovering all knowledge...forbidden, arcane, and obtuse. Why do people search for this knowledge?"
Nindy asks, "Power?"
Reyvin nods to Nindy.
Reyvin says, "One reason."
Reyvin says, "For more than a few reasons. Knowledge can be easily equated to power...calling off a common phrase of my ancestors..."Everything is Knowledge. Knowledge is Power. Power is Everything." Such a phrase goes inline with the Grandfather very well."
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin says, "Power is the all enveloping desire for everyone that has a soul. Think of it...power to do good. Power to force your horrors on someone else. Power to heal every disease in the world. Power to make someone happy...or cause them bitter sorrow."
(Reyvin squints at the audience...)
Reyvin says, "It is power that is the base driving element in this world...and can be used for good or evil. Uncovering this knowledge and power is essential for the further evolution of Elanthia...for we cannot afford to stay stagnant."
Reyvin asks, "For...if we do, who knows what horror might next befall us? Might a power such as the Drakes come again to exert thier will upon us? What, as an example, would have become of us if the Drakes would have been able to follow through with their plan of genocide without Fash'lo'lae's timely assistance?"
Reyvin raises an eyebrow.
Reyvin says, "Now...How one worships Fash'lo'nae is a highly personal thing. The strive for knowledge and power is done individually...as is dictated by the individuals strength. Some choose combat prowess. Some choose scholarly pursuits. Some choose magic. Some seek solely after that knowledge that others seek to keep hidden."
Reyvin says, "How you seek...is up to you. None other."
Reyvin says, "As you can see...Fash'lo'nae is not the stark, cold-hearted Arkati we have been tought to believe in..."
Reyvin says, "But rather an individual who seeks to understand and creatively untilize the knowledge and forces of this world..."
Reyvin says, "Which can only ultimatly benifit you, and me."
Reyvin says, "Thus concludes the lecture portion of this panel."
Reyvin says, "I will open it up to questions, as you wish. Please, let me know you wish to speak, and I shall call upon you in turn."
Morgiest raises his hand.
Reyvin leans on his staff.
Nindy raises his hand.
Reyvin asks, "Nindy?"
Reyvin raises an eyebrow in Nindy's direction.
Nindy says, "So..uh.."
Morgiest chuckles.
Nindy asks, "It's okay t'do bad t'ings so long as we learn somet'in?"
Nindy looks rather confused.
Lewk shifts his eyes to Morgiest.
Kadesha grins at Nindy.
Reyvin chuckles.
Reyvin asks, "Who is to say what is bad?"
Carthand chuckles.
Sothog says, "Interesting way of putting it."
Sothog chuckles.
Nindy looks thoughtfully at Reyvin.
Reyvin asks, "Murder is generally accepted as bad, yes?"
Nindy says, "Suppose I'se wanna smite you."
Nindy nods to Reyvin.
Nindy says, "T'learn more 'bouts anatomy."
Lewk smiles.
Tierus begins chuckling at Nindy.
Nindy asks, "Is dat okays?"
Sylviana raises an eyebrow.
Haylei appears to be trying hard not to grin.
(Reyvin chuckles slightly.)
Carthand frowns.
Reyvin gazes heavenward.
Tierus says, "Only on Restdays."
Tierus nods to Nindy.
Iscikella begins chuckling at Tierus.
Reyvin says, "Murder...is generally accepted as evil."
Nindy says, "Ah."
Tierus grins wryly.
Nindy nods to Tierus.
Sothog rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Reyvin asks, "But...what if in my body rested the knowledge to free the world from some horrible grip?"
Lewk shifts his eyes to Nindy.
Nindy asks, "Shall we see?"
Nindy peers quizzically at Reyvin.
Kadesha begins chuckling at Nindy.
Reyvin says, "No."
Ysharra asks, "Or the owner was condemned to death anyway?"
Nindy asks, "'cause wha' if'n it doesn'?"
Ysharra shrugs.
Reyvin says, "Perhaps after the lecture."
Reyvin nods to Nindy.
Reyvin gazes heavenward.
Tierus raises his hand.
Sothog cackles!
Alisaire chuckles.
Nindy says, "Intriguin'."
Nindy nods.
Reyvin says, "Moving along..."
Reyvin shakes his head.
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Kadesha raises her hand.
Morgiest says, "Ah hae a coupla questions, but will make em as short as possible."
Reyvin says, "Speak as you wish."
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Alisaire chuckles.
Morgiest asks, "Do ye worship Fash'lo'nae?"
Nindy just went northeast.
Reyvin says, "I do."
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Alisaire raises an eyebrow.
Reyvin says, "Though "worship" is a tad stressed of a word."
Morgiest asks, "Ah find that odd comin from a Dhe'nar. How do ye reconcil that?"
Reyvin says, "I prefer to think of the Arkati as brethren...an example of what we can become."
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Ysharra moves to stand in front of Alisaire.
Ysharra smiles at Gahread.
(Alisaire leans forward to whisper something to Ysharra.)
Reyvin says, "I admire Fash'lo'nae..."
Gahread says, "And yet you worship one? I don't commonly worship a sibling."
Ysharra nods to Alisaire.
Reyvin says, "And strive to sit at his side."
Carthand raises an eyebrow.
Sothog says, "So you consider him not a deity, but an ideal."
Reyvin says, "I do not worship. That is a commonly accepted term that perhaps I mispoke."
Morgiest says, "Ah was under the impression that the Dhe'nar looked upon the Arkati as thier parents, and hardly worth worship..."
Reyvin nods to Sothog.
Sothog smiles.
Reyvin says, "A fellow brethren that I hope to someday sit next to, and study with."
Reyvin nods to Sothog.
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Reyvin says, "You are correct."
Morgiest says, "Interesting."
Morgiest says, "Ah shall let some others ask a few questions, but ah do hae mer."
Morgiest sits down.
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin turns to face Tierus.
Reyvin turns an inquisitive ear towards Tierus.
Reyvin asks, "You had a question?"
Reyvin shrugs.
Reyvin glances at Kadesha.
Reyvin asks, "Kadesha?"
Sothog rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Tierus says, "Me question wis answered."
Tierus nods to Reyvin.
Reyvin nods to Tierus.
Kadesha asks, "so you dont consider exoerimenting to learn regardless of consequences to be evil?"
Reyvin looks over at Kadesha and shakes his head.
Kadesha says, "er experimenting"
Reyvin says, "I do not."
Kadesha asks, "was not the Vishmiir threat a result of some experiment by fash?"
Sothog says, "Really, now."
(Sothog rubs his singed eyebrows.)
Reyvin says, "By some, yes."
Kadesha says, "had they not been quelled, I doubt you or I or anyone else would have a chance to grow into little Arkati"
Reyvin says, "The Wisdom of the Grandfather has yet to be revealed as to his level, or why he was involved there."
Kadesha asks, "you still feel experimenting with no regard for the lab rat is not evil, when you are the lab rat?"
Reyvin says, "First...we have no idea what the purpose of the Vishmiir were here."
Reyvin asks, "And did we not learn how to combat them?"
Kadesha says, "well thei mentioned their purposes"
Reyvin asks, "Did we not learn more that we didn't know before?"
Reyvin nods to Kadesha.
Reyvin says, "Previous knoledge we didn't have, which may no doubt turn useful in the future."
Kadesha says, "learned to not trust wizards"
Reyvin chuckles.
Kadesha nods to Reyvin.
Reyvin nods to Kadesha.
Morgiest says, "Dun fergit, they broke the planet too."
Morgiest nods to Kadesha.
Morgiest nods to Kadesha.
Reyvin says, "Indeed...indeed."
Tierus glances at Kadesha.
Kadesha says, "some us already knew this without our exhistance threatened"
With a flick of her wrist Iscikella snaps open her carved bone fan.
Iscikella waves her carved bone fan a few times, clearly enjoying the cool breeze.
Morgiest begins chuckling at Kadesha.
Tierus says, "Nae bein' a Wizard, ah'dnae be able tae comment on tha trustworthiness o' tha entire profession based on two inept magi."
Reyvin says, "The knowledge was given out...and we only can wait to find out what it was given out for."
Reyvin nods to Kadesha.
Kadesha says, "I donno, seems such total disregard for life is rather evil, to me"
Kadesha says, "knowlede can be learned without careless disregard"
Reyvin says, "You have that opinion...but sacrafices must be made."
Reyvin says, "The Ur-Deamon war, as I lectured, is ample evidence of that."
Ysharra asks, "The sacrifices made by the Faendryl?"
Sothog says, "Although I do experimentation, I understand where risk must end and prudence begin."
Reyvin says, "Either allow the Ur-Daemnons access, and many die...or allow the Drakes to follow through with genocide, and more die."
Ysharra asks, "During the war against Despana, perhaps?"
Reyvin nods to Tierus.
Sothog says, "The proverbial lesser of two evils."
Sothog rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Kadesha asks, "ye think the Ur-daemons woulda been better for us?"
Reyvin nods to Sothog.
Tierus says, "If'n ah may."
Reyvin says, "Indeed."
Tierus coughs.
Kadesha asks, "and what genocide? where ya hear such a plan?"
Reyvin asks, "You did not listen to my lecture?"
Reyvin raises an eyebrow in Kadesha's direction.
Tierus says, "Fash'lo'nae's own attempts at experimentation arenae simply a choice o' immediately movin' tae tha last resort."
Tierus says, "Cert'nly, sacrifices mus' be made."
Kadesha says, "was here whole time, was hidden, ya mentioned it but not how ya learned of such"
Tierus says, "'owe'er, they are only whin knowledge cannae be gained in a less violent manner."
Reyvin leans on his staff.
Reyvin nods to Tierus.
Kadesha sighs.
Reyvin asks, "Any futher questions?"
Morgiest says, "Ah believe Lady kadesha had asked one..."
Kadesha says, "almost think such cold disregard in a way is more evil then the likes of Luukos, who least has some motive to his meanness"
Reyvin turns to face Kadesha.
You hear the sound of someone snorting.
Reyvin asks, "What question did I miss?"
Kadesha asks, "yes where did ye hear of this drake planned genocide?"
Reyvin says, "And, I frankly disagree with you there."
Reyvin says, "This was gathered from the Tomes of Elanthia, and many other historical documents."
Reyvin nods.
Morgiest blinks.
Kadesha says, "well I'd rather someone kill me because they hate me then because they are curious how I will die"
Kadesha shrugs.
You hear the voice of Carthand say, "It's true, I have read it myself."
Reyvin says, "That is your wish."
Morgiest says, "Ah would love tae see that document..."
Reyvin nods to Kadesha.
Kadesha mutters something about sociopaths.
Reyvin says, "But...if through your death came the power and knowledge to solve a great mystery...then it was worth it."
Reyvin nods to Kadesha.
Morgiest says, "Actually, ah believe the document he quoted most often, was written by someone in this very room..."
Morgiest chuckles.
Kadesha nods to Morgiest.
Morgiest points at Iscikella.
Morgiest says, "Her."
Kadesha says, "as a matter of fact it was"
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin asks, "Gahread?"
Reyvin cocks his head at Gahread.
Gahread asks, "Yes, I do have a question... I believe you said that no sacrifice is too great in the search for knowledge. Did you truly mean that?"
Morgiest asks, "Lady Iscikelleh? Did he accuratly represent yer document?"
Reyvin says, "If it is not foolishly squandered, yes."
Reyvin nods to Gahread.
Iscikella says, "No, Morgiest."
Iscikella shakes her head.
Morgiest nods to Iscikella.
Iscikella says, "But I am not hear to debate."
Morgiest says, "Ah thought ah recalled it written differently."
Morgiest shrugs.
Reyvin says, "I do."
Reyvin nods to Gahread.
Reyvin says, "Going on a rampage because you wish to see when your weapon will break, is foolishly squandering resources that are better used elsewhere."
Tierus says, "Aye, if'n ah might remind ye folks... this isnae a debate whair ye be attemptin' tae prove yer points tae Reyvin. 'Tis a question an' answer session fer yer benefit."
Tierus smiles.
Reyvin says, "Knowledge must be gathered...but some prudence must be shown at least."
Tierus says, "O' course, if'n ye wish tae do it, ye are leadin' this panel."
Tierus nods to Reyvin.
Kadesha raises an eyebrow in Reyvin's direction.
Reyvin says, "Lest you decend into the realm of V'Tull."
Reyvin snickers.
Reyvin nods to Tierus.
Kadesha says, "prudence is not the Grandfather's forte"
Reyvin says, "Not wholly, no."
Reyvin says, "But He is not a foolish and unwise one."
Morgiest says, "Ah understand a course, but when he presents his knowledge as factual, and based on documents that are part of "The record" so tae speak, ah merely wish tae make certain folks realize that is his interpretation only, and may nae be what was exactly written..."
Reyvin glances at Morgiest.
Reyvin asks, "Is not history but the interpitation of who saw the events?"
Morgiest nods to Reyvin.
Morgiest says, "It is."
Morgiest says, "Ahm nae questionin the validity a yer story friend...."
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Kadesha raises her hand.
Morgiest says, "But yer represented it as bein factually based on another document... Thats all ah wished tae point out..."
Reyvin asks, "Kadesha?"
Kadesha asks, "Ye did say that Lumnis was mad she failed, was she not instead mad that the giants had been hurt, and thus both they and Koar were upset?"
Reyvin asks, "Who is to tell? Why else would one be upset that her giants, though hurt, had now the knowledge to survive, instead of having the entire tribe wiped out?"
Morgiest raises his hand.
Reyvin says, "The cold no doubt would have killed the entire group. However, the knowledge of fire saved a portion."
Reyvin nods.
Kadesha says, "well, because the document is available to all and I read it also, thought it ought be properly quoted"
Reyvin says, "I was. My interpitation, as is evident, obviously differs from yours."
Reyvin nods to Kadesha.
Reyvin glances at Morgiest.
(Tierus nods, a satisfied look on his face.)
Morgiest stands up.
Reyvin asks, "Another question?"
Reyvin peers quizzically at Morgiest.
Morgiest says, "About the story on the fire...."
Morgiest nods to Reyvin.
Reyvin nods.
Reyvin leans on his staff.
Morgiest asks, "When Fash gave the fire tae the giants, why did he nae also teach them about how tae properly use it? Isnt that what a scholar does?"
Reyvin asks, "Why coddle a child?"
Kadesha smiles at Morgiest.
Morgiest asks, "Ehh?"
Reyvin says, "They will not properly learn what is proper and good then."
Sylviana asks, "To protect them from harm?"
Sylviana frowns.
Matti says, "Teaching responsible use is hardly coddling"
Sylviana nods.
Reyvin says, "Experience, by far, is the best source of learning."
Morgiest drums his fingers thoughtfully against his chin and inhales the chocolate-scented smoke smoldering away within his pipe deeply.
Reyvin asks, "If you burn yourself cooking, have you not learned not to do that?"
Sylviana nods.
Reyvin says, "However, if someone merely tells you that it will hurt..."
Reyvin says, "You are still curious."
Morgiest says, "Hrm. Thats a little different..."
Reyvin says, "You aren't sure."
Reyvin says, "And you likely will still burn yourself."
Reyvin says, "It's a bit different, but it's an example."
Sothog says, "There's a difference between a minor burn on the hand and igniting oneself on fire."
Reyvin says, "Experience, by far, teaches more."
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Kadesha nods to Sothog.
Sothog says, "Immolation's a bit too much education for my liking."
Morgiest says, "The givin someone somethin they have never seen before, that you know is dangerous, and nae warnin em of the dangers of its use..."
Reyvin says, "For you."
Reyvin nods to Sothog.
Matti says, "I doubt the giants who were afire were learning much from it"
Reyvin says, "But those that watched did."
Reyvin nods to Matti.
Reyvin says, "And that is what matters."
Sothog says, "Of course, if the person is truly wicked, such a level of education might be in order."
Kadesha gazes heavenward.
Reyvin says, "The end, does indeed, justify the means."
Haylei says, "Who'd have thought any race could be so ignorant as to set themselves on fire. Common sense would say that would be a bad thing."
Matti asks, "But if Fash'lo'nae was trying to save them why not give them some basic knowledge of the fire?"
Morgiest says, "Well, they did learn somethin of course, jes seems woulda been a whole lot easier tae spend a few minutes with em, and say heh, ye dern giants, this stuff kin hurt ye ifin ye git tae close tae it.."
Morgiest chuckles.
Reyvin says, "But, the lesson may not have been driven in as clearly then."
Reyvin nods to Morgiest.
Reyvin says, "Who are we to judge the Wisdom of the Grandfather. He no doubt had His reasons...I can only speculate."
Matti says, "There is no way to use common sense with something you have no experience with"
Morgiest asks, "Oh? So you say its "common sense" to use fire? Then tell me, if its common sense, why did the elves, need a giant to teach THEM how to use fire?"
Morgiest starts chortling.
Lewk rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Reyvin says, "Again, I am not here to enter into a debate...only to give information."
Reyvin asks, "Any futher questions?"
Tierus says, "Sometimes, e'en tha mos' intell'gent o' creatures need common sense pointed out tae 'em."
Tierus nods to Morgiest.
Matti says, "At least in this case it seems the Grandfather did not use much wisdom"
