Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Welcome to ONOIR'S XIXTRATAA COBBLING EXTRAVAGANZA."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"My name is Great Lady Xixtrataa Fargarthen the Rock Collector
But you kin call me Xixie"
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Well it would be if my title was fixed."
Xixtrataa giggles.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"I am a Paladin Artisan of Daingneach Onoir.
If you desire to learn more about Daingneach Onoir
Our Lady Paladin Cosannie or any member of the clan
Will be happy to answer any questions after the lecture"
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"To start before we go to the cobbling warehouse itself, Im gonna show you how to get leathers
That you have skinned or someone has skinned for ya tanned here at the Furrier."
[Wehnimer's, North Ring Rd.]
The cobbled road girds the town along the inner side of the northern palisade. Just to the north stand the twin sentinels of the gate's guardtowers, silhouetted against the night sky. Guardsmen come and go through the main gates, keeping a close eye on the people of all races who move to and fro. Opposite the gates, you see the shop of Dakris the Furrier.
[Dakris's Furs, Front Room]
This is the large front room of the furrier's shop. Roughly hewn planks, supported by wooden barrels, span the space and serve as a counter. A few simple chairs are randomly scattered along the dirt floor. Across the room, to the southeast, you see a doorway covered only by a draped velnalin hide. You also see a carved wooden arch and the furrier Dakris.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Here in Dakris' shop is where you got to get Skins tanned for cobbling in Landing.
You can get skins tanned in most towns where cobbling is done at the furriers.
We will go thru the doorway to the workroom"
[Dakris's Furs, Workroom]
Lifting back the leather curtain, you enter the furrier's workroom. Scraps of pelts, untanned hides, and tools for scraping, dressing and joining skins are spread across a workbench. Several stools with rush seats are pushed up against the wall. A half-finished rabbitskin robe is draped across one of the stools. You also see a leathery old woman.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"The better skinned furs will return to you as the better tanned leathers.
You will tend to obtain ranks quicker using tanned items than the leathers supplied in the cobby."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"And there is Cortina. She is the tanner.
You will hand her the skin you wish to tan
She will tell you whether or not it can be tanned and what it can be used for. "
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Buckles and toed parts are made from plates from the armory."
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Beads and buttons are made from gems that are collected and placed in pouch you can purchase at the cobby."
Xixtrataa huskily says, "It takes 4 gems of the same kind to make settings."
Xixtrataa huskily says, "You have to have different patterns for each type of embellishement you use."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"For example Rat skins can be used for trim, soles and uppers.
Some leathers like Waern can only be used for trim.
However some undead skins will not be usable for tanning."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Depending on how she cures the pelt, she will ask you how you want them tanned."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"You will have a choice of oak, alum and oil.
Oil is the best and thus most expensive way to tan,
Followed by alum and then oak."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Once you decide how you want the skin to be tanned
And what you want to use it for,
She will ask you to give the skin to her again
And she will give you a receipt that will
Tell you when your skin will be ready"
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Once you decide how you want the skin to be tanned
And what you want to use it for,
She will ask you to give the skin to her again
And she will give you a receipt that will
Tell you when your skin will be ready"
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"When the skin is ready
Return with the receipt
And she will give you your hides"
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Now off to the cobbling warehouse.
I'm gonna go purty fast for this, so if ya wanna know where it is
Or how to get there I kin give ya a quick description."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"The correct warehouse is on the east ring road. It is directly south of the brewery
See nice and quick."
[Wehnimer's, East Ring Rd.]
East Ring Road rejoins the Landing's palisades here and continues on inside it to its northernmost conclusion. An occasional wagon laden with goods passes by, its metal-rimmed wheels echoing in the night as they strike rough spots in the pavement. The merest hint of the scent of flowers and fragrant herbs drifts over from the south. You also see a small warehouse.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Here we are. This is Landing's Cobby.
There are 4 cobbies that I have been to in the land.
They are in Cysaegir, Landing, River' Rest and Teras."
[Warehouse, Entry]
A fresh layer of soft straw covers the weathered oak floorboards, softening the sound of rumbling wagons as they carry their loads of fine leathers and rare furs to the back of the warehouse for storage. Tanned hides lay stacked in piles against the smooth stone walls, waiting to be shipped to distant markets, or sold to local merchants and artisans. You also see a pair of cross-braced plank doors.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Then Go NORTH to get to the Nexus of the warehouse
From the Nexus you can reach all the important parts of the building."
[Warehouse, Nexus]
The air is filled with shouts and bellowed orders as warehouse workers, wagons, and tradesmen barely avoid each other in their rush to get to their appointed locations at their appointed times. A large wooden platform sits in the center of this whirling pool of chaos, a calm eye in the center of the howling storm of commerce.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"To the northwest and northeast are the individual workshops where you would make your shoes."
"CLIMB PLATFORM anytime you need to speak to the Foreman.
If you want to start cobbling you will have to ASK FOREMAN ABOUT JOINING.
With this he will teach you how to make a the first of four basic patterns, Shoes."
[Warehouse, Platform]
The solid oak platform sits in the middle of the warehouse floor, an island in the middle of a swirling sea of activity. From here you have a wonderful view of all of the activity going on in the warehouse. You also see a swarthy workshop foreman.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Other times you will need to visit the foreman include:
When you need to gain approval to advance to the next novice pattern
And when you need to rent cobbling space. Which is something you will have to do over
And over
And over
And over again."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"When you are first starting out
I would suggest that you use the group cobbling workshop
As it only costs 300 silvers for 2 hours."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"There is also single workshops where you can do your cobbling alone.
However it costs 1000 silvers to rent each time."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Before you even get you leathers or cobbling supplies you will need to go to the Office
And get a pattern book and a copy of your shoe pattern.
Thepattern book will hold all of your patterns,
(You will be allowed a total of 28 throughout your cobbling career).
The office is West of the nexus."
[Warehouse, Office]
One of the legs of a rickety chair is shorter than the others are; to help compensate for its imperfection the leg rests on a square piece of wood. Occupying the chair, an abandoned stuffed steel golem with pieces of jet for eyes sits limply. The warped oak floor is covered with a light dusting of straw. Along the back wall, a pile of cushions takes up space in front of a gaping hole. You also see a long counter with an oversized book of patterns on it and a snappily dressed young lass.
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"If ya havna figured out by now
Cobbling is not a cheap hobby"
"You will only need one pattern book for the entire time you will be cobbling.
It will be yours and willna be usable by any other cobbler.
If you lose your pattern book, you will need to buy another one
“And replace EVERY SINGLE pattern"
Xixtrataa huskily says, "You can have as many as ya want."
Xixtrataa huskily says, "It just gets expensive."
Xixtrataa huskily says, "You dont even have to have all your patterns in one."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"I would also suggest that when you are preparing to cobble for the day
You make yourself as unencumbered as you can ask an agile cobbler is a better cobbler.
Also you don't Really need armor and weapons to make shoes."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Again cobbling is not a cheap skill to learn.
The blank pattern book will cost you 2000 silvers.
Each new pattern after the first four basic patterns will cost you 5000 silvers
And each pattern copy will cost you 200 silvers."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"The four basic patterns are
Shoes,boots,slippers, and sandals"
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Ya need a total of 500 to be a Master.
At 400 you become a Highly Skilled cobbler.
At 300 you become Skilled.
At 200 you become a Journeyperson.
At 100 you are known as an Apprentice.
And under 100 you are a lowly Novice."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"The Patterns themselves will crumple and disappear about anywhere
From 35 to 40 uses so you will be continually buying new copies."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Tamariya only takes notes, no coins for this lass.
Everywhere else they take coins but not here.
Don't ask me why I don't know, and she wont tell me"
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"Now if ya are in a cobby in another city, Tamariya wont be who you speak with
But they will have someone in their office to help buying patterns."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"To see the patterns available.
READ PATTERN
You will see the pattern in the main pattern book
That is the pattern currently available to buy."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"To change the pattern shown.
FLIP PATTERN 0
Then Read the Pattern again
This is the index and shows all the patterns available
For purchase at this cobby."
Xixtrataa recites huskily:
"READ PATTERN
This will show you all the patterns available at this cobby"
"Now FLIP PATTERN 6
This is the pattern for shoes."
"To purchase this pattern.
TAP PATTERN while you have your patternbook in hand
Tamariya will ask you for a 200 silver note
And will place the pattern in your book after you give her the note."
"I have a slightly different version of the pattern book and the knife.
Occasionally at the festivals, the Gods will have cobbling supplies
That are different from those sold in the cobbies."
"For example I have a Folio instead of a pattern book
And my knife looks a bit fancier than those sold here.
However if you buy a different pattern book, any patterns you have in an old book
will not transfer in to the new book..
Yes they make you buy them agin."
