A Treatise on Cities

Author -

Ah, city life.. it's definitely not what I expected. I had always heard things, of course. But most of what I had heard was made up by my bored peers, for not many of my people ventured far. We preferred the forests, we liked the forests, we enjoyed staying put where we were.. in our forests. The trees were home to us. The thought of everyday life, being on the ground, was a very strange thing to think about for my people, and myself. What protection does that give you? It's much better, high up, I think.

Human cities were described to me as monstrous, ugly things. My parents taught me not to trust humans and other creatures, saying that they'll turn on you in the blink of an eye. Of course, they didn't mean -all- humans and whatnot, but they wanted me to be wary of such things, just in case. I wouldn't say cities are 'monstrous'.. I've taken a liking to them, though I will always prefer the forest, which I greatly miss. Cities were thought to be not worth going to due to the lack of protection and untrustworthiness of the people residing there.

I find the cities to be fascinating as well. They're great for doing what I do best.. wandering. There's always so much to see, always something going on. I must admit my very first visit to the Landing was bewildering. I had no idea where to go or what to do, but people were friendly and helpful enough. It was very exciting and new to me, since I still wasn't exactly used to having everything on the ground right in front of me.

I had gotten a good first impression of the people in the Landing, but I always heed my parents' words. I've learned to see who I can and cannot trust. I can see why my fellow sylvans can call these cities monstrous, though; it's because our own cities are much more beautiful. I think anyone would agree with that, except for the fact that humans don't exactly get to see the cities of the sylvans. Though I will always prefer and miss my home, and hope to return there one day, I won't deny that I'm enjoying myself in this town of Wehnimer's Landing.
