Janarth
Janarth was born and reached his majority in New Ta'Faendryl, but ultimately left the Empire over a sense that there was a better way.
His home was of modest but comfortable means; his mother a scholar in the Clerisy and his father - one of those who had some magical skill, but would never be a great summoner and thus took up practical occupation - a woodworker the Emporion. As do most Faendryl, Janarth grew up in a house where the first devotion was to the pursuit of knowledge, not to any particular deity. His upbringing differed from the norm in that his parents were on the more liberal side of the spectrum regarding Faendryl politics; they would never disobey the Patriarch, but they questioned the wisdom of isolationism and elitism.
Endowed with strong magic, Janarth excelled in the Patriarch Games. But he felt trapped by the Empire's tight social governance and cutthroat culture. He subscribed to the belief that progress through the pursuit of knowledge, particularly magical knowledge, should be the first priority, but he displayed a morality that chafed against the stereotypical belief that gaining such knowledge should be done at all costs - even the ill treatment of another.
While he bore his parents no ill will - and still visits with them from time to time - he declared he would be leaving New Ta'Faendryl. After a week's preparation, he struck out to make his own way. His first steps were unsuccessful - his first decision an ill one. He made his way to Ta'Vaalor, thinking the city's openness to other races and cultures would allow him to be judged by his own actions, not his ancestors. He tried to join the Legion, but despite his helpful demeanor and generousness, he was refused. He focused on his training, with dreams of winning over the officers with his competency, but learned the hard way the depth of distrust and hate in a particularly nasty case of harassment which turned physical. He still bears a scar from that fight to this day. Shortly thereafter, he once again struck out, his desire a place where he could be judged by his actions, not his heritage.
It was two years since he left home, but he eventually made his way across the Dragonspine, and found the Landing. There he found acceptance among other hunters, magicians, priests and workers - in short, a community. There he flourished, joining the Adventurer's Guild and the Sorcerer's Guild. While he still didn't consider himself devoted to a deity, he learned of the presence of the gods and better understood how they touched the world; he chose to honor Lumnis and her wisdom. He bought a small house and supported himself through his guild work and bounties. Eventually, and fortuitously, his guild work exposed him to Daingneach Onoir, and he recognized in their codes the type of honor and respect for others he was looking for. He endeavored to join the house and live by its codes.
Today, Janarth is a citizen in the landing, an ardent supporter of both the Landing's laws, and acceptance. He passionately pursues knowledge both for his own training, but also for the sake of progress. He does so always careful of the rights of others, and never at their expense. He looks forward to showing the other members of Daingneach Onoir how well he can live up to the codes.
