Wanageeska

Wanageeska
Fugitive from what the Krolvins call justice.

Born a slave to a slave mother, he was destined only to be fodder in the Krolvin army. His mother though was a little different from most of the slave mothers captured. She had been educated, and insisted that he be educated as well, spending her time and her life educating him. It was Krolvin policy to keep slave mothers bearing as long as possible, but she’d been barren after he’d been born, instead working to help others and educate their children. She died under the beatings of a drunken officer, a full Krolvin named Grask. It was only a few years later that Wanageeska ended up being sent to the island in which he began his training for the Krolvin army.

It was during this time that Wanageeska started to think about the tales his mother told him, the lands in which she’d grown up and the family from which she’d been parted. Krolvin army training was grueling, but Wanageeska quickly became adept at the scout training program and progressed quickly through it. Finally he was assigned for final training under the same officer that killed his mother, Grask… It was a bit of luck that gave him the opening, Grask drinking in the field, enjoying himself at the expense of his trainees. Finally it happened that his back was turned and rage boiling in Wanageeska’s breast. Trainees had their weapons had been taken from them, but an arrow wasn’t considered a weapon. Taking one from his quiver, he gripped it and slammed it home in the officer’s neck. It ripped through the Krolvin’s vein and spurted blood everywhere. Grask was dead and his mother avenged. Wanageeska didn’t think, he just reacted, running until he hit the sea and then finding some driftwood that would float. Wasting no time he tied himself to the log, pushed it into the sea and started swimming.

Storms tossed him and many times he thought he was dead, but finally he reached land, something he hoped was hospitable. He washed ashore, tired and cold, quickly realizing he was going to die having reached his dream. With the last of his strength he looked around and saw a fortress. As he gave up, something started tugging on him, dragging him out of the surf. Graciously the young man offered food and a warm fire to the young half-Krolvin, introducing himself as Kello and both telling their stories. Quickly it became apparent, that they were talking about the same woman, by fate’s strange weave, they were half-brothers, separated their entire life, never having met and yet meeting each other next to a seaside cliff. The final proof was a mithril pin that Wanageeska had taken from his mother’s meager belongings, something she had kept from her prior life and he wore hidden. Now he showed it to the young man and it was confirmed, it was a pin that Kello’s father had given to his mother.

One came to the land looking for family, one was looking for revenge, both were mourning loss. Together they now face the lands together…
